Early American Exhibits

The "Civil War" exhibit is a classic collection of weapons, as well as essentials for life in the camps of soldiers awaiting battle.   There is a rare  collection of  tin types of Union General Burnside and some of his family members.

 

"Old Farm Tools" is a classic collection of tools used in everyday life:  from items made solely of wood, to later ones manufactured from metal.

Turpentine" was the major industry in North Carolina until the 1880's.  This exhibit houses the most well preserved, 500 gallon turpentine still in the south.  The tools and materials used in the collection of the raw material are also displayed.

Early Musical Instruments
dating back to the 1700's.



This rare piece of pottery was made by the famous potter, "Webster" from the Fayetteville, NC area.




































 

 

A collection of 19th century patent medicines and  medical instruments are displayed in our "Rural Medicine" exhibit.  Most of the items here are from Richmond and Montgomery Counties.







Three pieces of pottery from Edgefield, SC were made by Chandler,  a famous potter of the mid 19th century.
